Really excited about this upcoming show at the Lincoln Theatre on September 17th. Works Progress Administration (WPA) is a new band led by one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Glen Phillips, former lead singer of 90′s alternapop staple Toad the Wet Sprocket. I’ve been following Glen’s career closely since TTWS broke up back in 1998 and have enjoyed his varied output over the years both as a solo artist and via collaborations (especially Remote Tree Children!).

Enveloping New Music
Today’s song of the day comes from the just released sophomore album from London band Engineers. This fantastic album is a wall of sound that fully envelops the listener in lofty, lush dream pop. It has been over 4 years since their debut, during which time they unfortunately got caught up in the failure of their record label and struggled to figure out their next move. The time away, I’m happy to report, has not hurt their music at all and after the first few listens, I am already starting to believe this one will be in my top 10 list for 2009. Enjoy!
Technical Difficulties
Please excuse the technical difficulties I’ve been having with raleighing over the past day. Been working with my hosting provider to identify the issue and get it resolved. I think I’ve made some progress in the right direction so fingers-crossed the site will stay up and running. Otherwise, I may be looking for a new place to house the new raleighing!

UPDATE: This album is now available in MP3 format at Lala.com and Amazon.com for only $3.99. I’ve inserted a Lala.com player below where you can listen to the full tracks on the album once. Subsequent listens will be reduced to 30 second samples.
How’s this for luck?
As I mentioned in a “song of the day” tweet last week, the band Discovery is a collaboration between members of Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot. Their debut album, titled simply LP, is set for release today and is a funky, dance-y, indie mix that is an engaging listen. Included on the album is a cover of The Jackson 5 number-one single, “I Want You Back.” The original song appeared on The Jackson 5′s debut album and was their first hit, recorded when Michael was just 10 years old.
