Inc. Magazine just released the 2009 Inc. 500 List which ranks private U.S. companies according to their growth rate from the years 2005 to 2008. I am happy to report that there are 10 area companies on the list this year:

Drag yourself to Durham for Bingo

If you’re looking for an interesting night out that supports a great cause look no further than the Durham Armory. Once a month Alliance of Aids Services sponsors Drag Bingo. Yes, I said Drag as in Queens. No, you aren’t expected to come dressed as anyone but yourself. Each month has a different theme. I attended on James Bond Bingo night. Get there early as the seating fills up fast. Settle yourself with a hotdog special (2 hotdogs, chips, dessert and a drink for $5). Make sure your bingo “dauber” is in working order and get ready for some old fashioned fun with a decidedly 21st century twist.

Your evening will be hosted by Mary K. Mart, John Paul Womble and a group of BVD’s (bingo verification divas). You start out the evening with the Drag Bingo pledge and then an explanation of the rules — pay close attention or you may find yourself on stage and at the mercy of Mary K. Mart. Bingo games are interspersed with performances by the BVD’s and the hosts keep up a running commentary that will keep you smiling. Next Drag Bingo event is Friday, April 20th! Urban Outfitters Opens in Suburbia

Fans of irony will absolutely love doing some Durhaming this weekend and going to the Streets at Southpoint’s newest store, Urban Outfitters. The clothing store which caters to teens and young adults wanting the appearance of grittiness, is the chain’s second store to the state. Yes, it is a cool store, but it would be a lot cooler if it were actually in an urban area with authentic grit.

With so much going on with Raleigh development, some great things in Durham have been somewhat overshadowed. There still are some great things in Durham, and investors are seeing downtown’s potential for the future. My Durham favorites, Magnolia Grill and Pop’s, are going strong while recent additions, The Streets at Southpoint mall and the American Tobacco Complex, have proven that new projects can thrive in Durham.

One of the Triangle’s biggest retailing scores in a long time is Urban Outfitters’ new store at Streets at Southpoint Mall which will open in the Fall.
A new 2,800 seat Performing Arts Center is planned for downtown (map it) – photos
~~If the TTA rail transit plan works out~~, a beautiful transit station ~~will be~~ is being built. (This is a non-rail station which will connect Grayhound, DATA, and Taxis.)
The Renaissance Tower is a $42M matching building to the Durham’s tallest, the former People’s Security Trust tower. Construction begins this year on the luxury condo tower.
~~Woolworth Site Development~~
The Heritage Square (mixed-use redevelopment) is planned across the Durham Freeway from the DBAP.
Northgate Mall’s Renovation will give it a chance to survive.
The American Institute of CPAs is moving to Durham
117 Parrish St., the former Woolworth site, might be the site of a new tower (map it) "Early renderings of the proposed high-rise show it being of a similar

Mangum 506, a brand new 22-condominium project, is planned for Downtown Durham.
