WPA Tickets Now On Sale

WPA LogoReally excited about this upcoming show at the Lincoln Theatre on September 17th.  Works Progress Administration (WPA) is a new band led by one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Glen Phillips, former lead singer of 90′s alternapop staple Toad the Wet Sprocket.  I’ve been following Glen’s career closely since TTWS broke up back in 1998 and have enjoyed his varied output over the years both as a solo artist and via collaborations (especially Remote Tree Children!).

WPA is a bit of a supergroup pulling its members from a wide variety of previous bands, from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Elvis Costello and the Imposters to Nickel Creek to Wilco.  I’m especially intrigued by this band due to the excitement in communications from Glen Phillips.  As you can read in this letter, for example, he is obviously truly thrilled by this group and putting his full effort into it.

Tickets for their Raleigh show went on sale this past Friday on etix.com (a Morrisville-based company, btw).  They are $12 in advance, $15 the day of the show.  I’ve already got mine!  Should be an especially good show as their debut album will be released just two days prior.

Here’s a track from that forthcoming album.  You can hear more on the Music tab of their website.  Enjoy!

I heard it would just be a quartet in Raleigh – any details on that?

Don, according to WPAs site, you are absolutely correct. Wish it were a full band stop, but I'll take what I can get!
