The Nash Changes Shades

A development formerly known as ‘The Nash’ has changed its name to simply ‘Hue‘ as a new site sign reflects.  Perhaps the name change is to reflect the appearance of the colorful building, or perhaps to make it sound less like a disease.  Regardless, it is slated at 7 stories which will sit between The Dawson and Park Devereux.  The building will have commercial space and likely be full of mostly one and two bedrooms.  The rumor is that it will potentially cater to a less affluent demographic.

The new website is www.hueraleigh.com and promises to amplify the color in your otherwise gray life.  The project is being developed by Trammel Crow out of Atlanta (who is also responsible for 222 Glenwood) and is being sold by York Simpson Underwood.

This could potentially be a Hue-ge (rimshot) eye sore in Downtown. But, if they will really be affordable I’m all for it.

  2. great, another condo

To the developers building condos in DT Raleigh…. Please stop. Too many condos going up,, too high of prices (this is Raleigh, come on). Too high is the risk of low resale…due to the overwhelming abundance of DT condos going up. Anyone notice the halted production of the Bloomsbury Estate condos? yeah, they’re struggling already.
First, build real office buildings, bring in developments that corp’s would want to relocate their business to RDU. The new RBC building is a great start, just need about 10 more to make this a city.

Halted production of Bloomsbury? Where did you hear that? I just went on a personal tour with John Bruckel and several other agents. The views are going to be amazing. The site is on the Downtown Home Tour this weekend. They are moving along. Not sure where you’re getting your info.

It doesn’t matter what they name the buidling. If the comments to the Crema coffee review are any indication, Raleighites will add a posessive ‘S to the name. In this case: Hue’s, does sound much nicer than Percolator’s, Cup-a-Joe’s, or Helio’s.
And Bloomsbury has only finished pouring concrete for stage 1 – welding and construction continues. No doubt the view FROM the building will be great.

Only someone who already owns a downtown condo would be concerned about resale value. Personally, I view any promise of “affordable” units with skepticism. 712 Tucker was supposed to be such a thing – then the prices came out.
I’ve finally broken myself of my desire to live in downtown Raleigh. There’s just no incentive. If the urge strikes again, I’ll start looking at Charlotte. $250 for a nice 2BR place right beside a rail stop seems much more desirable – and a downtown with more to offer.

The market sets the prices. If there isn’t money to be made, no one would be building.

Views from the Bloomsbury of Central Prison will be great. Also, has anyone seen the renderings for this project? Is this 17th century France, or 21st century Raleigh?
