Ok, perhaps I’m being a little too harsh here, but does anyone like this thing? Is this really the image of Raleigh we want to project to the rest of the world? Granted, I realize the primary audience for it is potential convention clients, but I’m not even sure they’ll get it.
Admittedly, I’ve seen worse “corporate” and “government” videos. Much worse. I guess I just wonder why anyone would spend the money to produce something like this when there are such better options, like a more interactive website. How about a 3-D interactive rendering of downtown Raleigh that people could use to conduct either guided or manual tours of the city online? How about including a timeline so the rendering changes when a slider is moved?
Anyway, post your comments here or on YouTube. The folks at the Raleigh CVB Convention Center are interested in what people think and will be reading them.

… even if I weren’t a lawyer, which represents the ultimate in un-coolness.
i just listened to it again. its just too darned country. it is cheesy, but what promo video isn’t at least a little cheesy. it just needs better music. and no, not the connells, they are dreadful as well.
Just getting on this train and finally watched the video. I am horrified! I not known for being mean or handing out insults but I am completely insulted and embarrassed by this video. The song was unpalatable…btw – Chris, loved the title…I could barely get through the video with that twang. A Connells song would completely rock on a project like this…They ARE Raleigh and anyone from Raleigh would know that.
perhaps if they actually hired a professional motion graphic/broadcast/video designer (a good one, I mean), the piece could have had some meaning and coherence and an interesting message (tho maybe raleigh just isn’t that avante garde and they were only working with the slim pickings available). This looked like a bunch of hacks got together to makes something to attract redneck cowboy sports loving locals to a basketball game rather than attract high tech, educated, cultured clients to the area. How pathetic.
p.s. I am a native, born in Raleigh resident and I think this is the worst promotional piece I have ever seen; and I’ve seen a lot.
if the Raleigh Convention Center expects to attract high dollar/high paying/high-falutin’ thousands and thousands of dollars worth of clients to rent their facility, they really need to pay professionals to put together professional, nuances, sophisticated visuals, soundtracks and messages. If you want to attract the money, you have to be willing to spend a little bit. You get what you pay for.
You are correct—we are getting what we are willing to pay for. Raleigh can do better and should do better, but it starts with having the right people in the right places. If we continue to hire people from places like Rock Hill to manager our city and it’s activities, these are the kinds of results that we will continue to get!
