Crabtree Village Reaching Retailers

Crab_vill1
Crabtree Village developers recently sent materials out to would-be store owners. The four page flier lists some demographics and contains three nice looking renderings. As we reported previously, the terraced retail section makes good use of the two levels available. It appears that the eastern corner (in the left portion of the rendering) is the area where trees will be preserved. However given the counterintuitive terrain, the rest of the property will have to be scalped in order to create a natural descent into the valley.

Ughhh… I love Crabtree and high density development, but this plan still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Is it asking too much to build up the existing Crabtree (aka, find a new solution for the new Belks disappointment)? Scalping most of Kidd’s Hill is not the solution I was looking for. I would much rather see the majority of this project remain green (for environmental and aesthetic reasons) and see more redevelopment around the “convenience plaza” and the future Soleil Center.

Scalped … try beheaded. Dynamited, actually.

The only other option would have been a development that turned its back on Crabtree and stood no chance at being part of a larger community….or of course just building it out past 540 somewhere.
I’ve never seen a piece of land ascend quickly…to a cliff overlooking a creek. Bizarre.

Interesting. Reminds me of an Italian village on the Amalfie coast. What are they going to do about the inevitable erosion issues. Retaining walls can only do so much for so long. Nature seems to always win out in the end. What am I missing?

So I guess my fun little light-traffic shortcut into the back of the mall will now be a feeder into a new retail hub? Dang it!

Do you think this means they’ll close Brendle’s?

Ah, I see the old curmudgeon has growled again. It must be dark, cold, and lonely in that olde Raleigh hovel. Maybe a little smelly, too, because you must not get out to have noticed that the former catalog showroom is long gone.
Perhaps you were born at that nom de guerre corner a very, very long time ago and don’t get out much these days. My sincere condolences to you in your sad, little world. I hope our “arrogant world” here in dynamic Raleigh doesn’t cause you too much consternation, as you live vicariously through us here at Raleighing. Cheers.

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned the flooding problem. Has everyone forgotten that Crabtree Creek floods on a regular basis. The added impervious surface in Crabtree Valley is potentialy disasterous. The property also has a tributary of Crabtree Creek running through the middle of it. What wre the developers going to do with that? Fill it in?
