The North Carolina Museum of Art opened one of its historic marquee exhibits today, Monet in Normandy. The exhibit combines 50 of Monet’s works from public and private collections in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, creating the first ever comprehensive Monet exhibit in the Southeast.
The exhibit runs thru January 10, and is $15 general admission ($12 for students, seniors, or groups of 10 or more). An audio tour is available for an extra $5, and docet-led tours and lectures are available, too.
I went Friday to take advantage of the free day. It really is an outstanding exhibit, I highly recommend it. I even renewed our expired dual membership.
I was fortunate, like Yoga, to be able to get to the free preview. I knew it would be elbow to elbow, but thought I’d just take a peek and see what I’d like to focus on most when I go back another day.
Even with the crowds it was exhilarating — deliriously wonderful — (and I’m not even that big a fan of Impressionism). To head off “sensory overload” I decided to leave after seeing a selection of about one-third of the pictures. I’ll definitely be back!
Yeah we’ll be going back for sure. To add icing to the cake, when I walked out of the museum Friday, I headed out on that gravel path through the wildflowers on the way to the parking lot. As soon as I was out from under the overhang, about 50 geese in 3 separate clumps flew over pretty low. It was a nice morning.
