The Ice…Is Down

The Canes open their season two weeks from tonight, but there is still some preseason work to do. The departures of Gerber, Recchi, Weight, Aaron Ward, and Cullen in addition to the severe injuries to Stillman and Kaberle will make the first 3 months of the season unpredictable. Hopefully this team can have a good season like the ’04 defending champs, Tampa Bay, did in ’06.

Winning has its privileges. The Canes, who have always had trouble finding national sponsors for on-ice ads, seem to have landed a couple of biggies this year. While Lenovo is back with their ad, Chevrolet is advertising here at a time that GM is struggling.

In another post we mentioned the new Champions Club located at the north end of the second level (just above the deck). My earlier suspicions of big second level changes were just confirmed. Fans will no longer be able to completely circle the second level as the new club extends from the inner ledge all the way to the outer wall of the building.

Went to the arena tonight. New sponsors along with some of the same ones. Nice to SAS on the boards along with Verizon and some of the standards like GSK and Lenovo on the ice. Still 2 ice ads open but may have sold and need time to paint or still in negotiations.
For the team, this is just pre-season but they look fast but would like to see some more defense. The youngster Reed looks like a future star and I think Isbister will come around. I also hope Walker comes around.
Crowd was OK but I think people are waiting for opening night to get the buzz going.
I went and looked at the Champions club (as close as I could get) and Dana is right, that end of the club level will be closed unless you got the special password (a $5100 ticket). I still say for a business, that is the best deal in town. For $10.2K, a great gift for your customers that will keep them coming back or to keep the employees happy.
Go Canes Go. Might as well get on the Canes Train as ACC football is over and hockey is much more fun !!!

Oh yea, Shane “whatcha talking about” Willis is for real. He looks good and I think he will be spending time in Raleigh instead of Albany as a River Rat.
