Chick-Fil-A Coming to Cameron Village

Ladies and gentlemen…the most obvious business opportunity in the history of Raleigh, North Carolina is finally coming to fruition. We just got word that a free-standing Chick-Fil-A will replace the old dry cleaners building behind the McDonald’s in Cameron Village. The City of Raleigh better put all downtown and North Hills plans on hold because they will promptly need to widen Oberlin Road, Cameron Street, and Peace Street to handle the massive loads of traffic to be generated by this "cash cow".

    There are a ton of places that would die for a Krispy Kreme. Neither Durham nor Chapel Hill has one.

    I _would_ agree about a NoRa KK, but the only reservation is that it seems like one in Cary would be a shoe-in, too (if NoRa is a shoe-in). Problem is, the one in Cary closed and was never replaced. It was on Walnut where the Cook-Out is. I heard they had a terrible bug problem in the building. However it seems like if business were that great, they would have found a substitute location. There used to be one on Glenwood Avenue next to Darryl’s (across from Oak Park Shopping Center) around 1980 that lasted about a year.
    Of course with the KK corporate in such deep you-know-what, expansion is the last thing on their mind.

    I think an upscale ice cream place, such as Kilwin’s, in Cameron Village would be successful. Apologies to Baskin-Robbins. I looked into Kilwin’s franchising info. You must have a lotta cash on hand, and a net worth of $500K or more.
    In his blog, Bill Leslie just praised Kilwin’s in Blowing Rock. The nearest one is in Wilmington.

    Working on Glenwood, I’ve got a growing list of “what this street needs is . . .” I imagine people working in Cameron Village have similar lists. My list includes:
    - A streetside grocery store with fruitstand
    - A pick-up-and-go fresh sandwich/breakfast shop, best-case connected to the grocery store, i.e. Zabars in NYC
    - A small bookstore
    - A Souvlaki stand
    Of course, we do have a bead store.

    As for Chik-fil-a, that is great news! Now if they can just get a Trader Joe’s in Cameron Village my life would be complete.

    Umm…as much as I like chick-fil-a the location concerns me since its so close to the entrance of HT, McD’s, and also Oberlin Rd, and Daniels. Yeah its gonna be traffic nightmare. Nevertheless bring on the chicken minis…
    I was thinking the other day it would be nice to have another bookstore downtown. I don’t know if it could support something like B&N; or something smaller like another Quail Ridge.

    all this talk about the CFA makes me feel spoiled that I have one within 2 mins of my house in Cary and one within a few blocks on F-street downtown. I’m happy for you Cameron folks.

    I agree with your assessment about the chicken shop, Cameron Traffic is already a mess.
    (How did Krispy Kreme get into the conversation (we will not have to worry about any of their locations, the management at Krispy is running them into the ground, the downtown corner where Krispy is currently located will be prime real estate for a class “A” mixed use building once Blount street project breaks ground))

    OKAY – now we’re def going to move back to Raleigh from LA! We have to drive to Orange County for the only Chick Fil A (possibly in SoCal.)

    Won’t my two-year-old be thrilled! Okay, so will I. Yes, traffic will be awful as a result, at least for a few months while everyone revels in the novelty. Maybe we can convince everyone in the area to walk there.
    So a friend told me the CV HT tired of its nightmare parking lot and is moving back down to the Eckerd’s site. I suppose they’d scrape and rebuild. Has anyone else heard that? If so, what’s the timetable?
    (P.S.–What a sad notion–the Person St KK getting torn down. Banish the thought.)
