The Bull Welcomes Logan, Packman

Logan
Good news football fans! Triangle sports radio station 620 The Bull has added "The Steve Logan Show" from 1pm-3pm to its weekday lineup. The former ECU head coach is a vault of football knowledge down to what makes a particular NFL tight end excel to what really happens college training rooms, for example. (Take a look at this excerpt from Logan’s chapter, "The Multidimensional Passing Game", from the book Offensive Football Strategies.) Logan’s thoughtful pontifications will be an entertaining addition to the local 1 o’clock talk radio lineup. That hour in the area has only featured national shows since 850 The Buzz began carrying the redundant monotone, Jim Rome.

The Bull has also added "Primetime With The Packman" (Mark Packer) to its daily lineup from 3pm-7pm. Packer’s show originates from Charlotte and was previously carried on 1090am. The bottom line with accepting this show is: don’t blame people for their relatives.

The two shows replace the Sporting News Radio Network’s James Brown and Tim Brando Shows on 620′s lineup. For those few who really care about the Brando show, it can still be heard on XM radio channel 143 (XM Sports Nation which, incidentally, replaced Sporting News Radio on that channel Monday).

Dana — I don’t think you could have captured the true horror that is “The Jungle with Jim Rome” better than redundant monotone. Just caught a snippet of Steve Logan and it is already far superior to J’Rome!

They have a mp3 link to Coach Logan’s show on the 850/620 blog (www.850thebuzz.com/blog) for those of us who have to work. I just wish that I had as good reception for 620 than for 850 in the car.
Rome is bad but not as bad as his “clones” that call in. At least The Jungle is better than his TV show which is pure torture.

Count me as someone who absolutely loves Rome. He even admits you have to give it a couple of weeks. I did, and now he’s the absolute best on the radio.

    Lew,
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who feels that way. I mean, it is one thing to have an opINNion, but it is another to know that others have that same opinion. Our opinions are the same. We have come up with the same assessment of the situation, and they match. What better, or more purrrrfect than to know that someone has seen something the same way that you do? That is gratifying and validates the opinion I’ve found. Isn’t it amaaaaaazing when opinions are in accord? What I’m saying is that two people can view things very differently. That is one thing. It is another thing, entirely, to share an opinion with another person, whether you have a high regard for them or not. There is nothing like validation of your opinions to get you through the day…aaaaaaand see that others saw something the same way you did.

While we’re on the subject :)
    LOCALLY
Bring back Taylor Zarzour — any time of day would be fine.
Lose (PLEASE) lose Adam Gold — brilliant sports mind as far as stats but maybe writing a local column would be better. Are there any other sports on the face of the Earth other than Baseball?
I like The Bull in the morning but Morgan Patrick needs to lead, Joe Ovious (sp?) needs to produce and Tony Rigsby is great as is.
Chris Clark — please. Not good.
    _____________________
On a side not though, have to hand it to 850 in that they really do promote their own, which I think is very admirable.

packman – good stuff. QCB had me laughing outloud today. I like that they can rip on each other, still have fun and keep it entertaining.
Logan – great football insight and seems like a good guy. Gold used to have him on once a week and i always enjoyed it.
Zarzour – had potential, but i just could never get into it. Mike and mike is a good replacement even if they’re a bit contrived.
Rome – fine in small doses but soooo repetitive.
Gold – its coooool to hate on Gold, but he’s pretty good. He has weak days like anyone, but overall he’s good.
Siciliano seems pretty entertaining too. He’s on around 7pm.

    Hey Coach Logan,
The best game I have ever witnessed was 1991 Peach Bowl. Have you ever had a more exciting 2nd half than that?
2nd Q, I went to the ECU game last night, helluva game..anyway, I was on the way up to the VIP section before halftime, we had to wait for the coaches to come down on the the elevator, when they got off they were sprinting to the lockrooms all pissed off. My question or interest is, do you have any good stories from when you rode the elevator down with other coaches? Did you ever want to pull a Chuck Norris on them?
    Thanks,
    Whiskey

  • curious minds…

Does anybody know where Taylor Z. wound up? I thought I heard him on the radio this weekend in a post-game or scoreboard show, but can’t recall what station/show and not sure if it was him.

I was listening to Logan today and no wonder people loved to play for him. He would have State Football turned around in 3 years, with the facilities State has to recruit in and just the way he can break football down. He was talking today and I wanted to get out on the field :)

Taylor was great. Not incredibly accurate, but still so much fun to hear. I far preferred that to the alternative attitude we were getting from 850. TZ actually stuck in a few occasional religious overtones that were never tacky, which is an art.
To the credit of 850 and 620, though, they are now doing their best work ever. They monopolize the market, but are now doing it with class.
Taylor’s faithful listeners got this email from him in late June. If you’re reading, Taylor, I hope all is well and you’re having a great Fall.
“As many of you know I am no longer working with Triangle Sports Talk. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the support and well wishes. It has truly been overwhelming. I have every intention and desire to remain in the area. For now I will be working with Carolina Custom Golf and continuing my work for Tar Heel Sports Marketing. I hope to be doing some other work (that is broadcast related) and when that happens I will send an additional e-mail…I hope each of you are well, have a great summer, and stay in touch.
    All the best,
    Taylor Zarzour”
