WRAL is reporting that the Oberlin Road YWCA will close September 1 and the property will be sold. We officially wish the best of luck to the future buyer and their architect. They will need it.

Maybe Neil Coker will build a rendering plant there.

How about a 43 story mixed use facility? Or … maybe an brick frame 10 story art decco building that Empire Properties can claim was their since 1908?

    ^ Heh…y’all are funny.
On the upside, that intersection with Mayview may be more managable for a while. Until the new buyer of that property decides to put something there that has even more traffic coming out of it than the Y did. *sigh*
Maybe if we’re really really lucky, someone will tear it down and build a few moderate-sized houses (of a style found in the Oberlin area) to add charm back to that part of the street.
    Yeah, we can dream.

That new monstrosity behind the Y, between Oberlin & Wade, will make traffic worse in spite of the Y. Maybe on upside is that we won’t have to put up with dozens of Yukons and Suburbans trying to make sharp turns out of the Y lot! Whee!!!
