NELSONS Open to the Public

NelsonsWe are a couple of days late with this one, but Nelsons officially opened in Cameron Village this past Wednesday.  An interesting multi-faceted restaurant, Nelsons is defintely high on my list of restaurants to visit and I’ll be sure to post my thoughts on here afterwards.  Read this post for a detailed description of the restaurant.  And here are a couple of pictures of the interior.  The first of of the upstairs, open-air Skyline Loft and the second is of the huge raw bar.  Looks impressive to me!

Well I decided to stop by Nelson’s last night, just to look around and have a drink at the bar.
It looks nice enough, but the service at the bar left a lot to be desired. When a person walks in and sits down at the bar and is the only person there, you’d think the bartenders would make that customer their priority. Nope. Two bartenders and too much time later, I got a very so-so margarita (I am pretty sure he skipped an ingredient just because he couldn’t find an open bottle). And it was $12.
Not a good first impression. But I’ll try it again when they have been open a little longer and have worked out some of these unprofessional kinks.

Beth – we shared your experience. Jo and I ate their a few weeks ago, and while the food was good enough, the service was not. Also – the interior design was slick but neither cozy nor romantic.
They are waisting precious first impressions. It will be very hard to recover from a less than stellar opening in the competitive atmosphere that Raleigh is becoming.
IMHO – if Nelson’s plans to compete in a league with Second Empire, the owners should have worked with the staff more before opening and put more thought into the dining experience as a whole. AND THAT LOGO!!! ugh
