New Site Features

While Raleighing is consistently going through changes (I have a noodling obsession), there have been a few lately that I’d like to point out.  First of all, over to the right at the top of the side column, there now are links to subscribe to our feed or to receive Raleighing via email.  Neither of these are new features, but we’ve decided to make them more prominent on the site per some suggestions from readers.  Both of these options will help you keep up to date with our posts without having to remember to visit the site every day.

The feed option is for those of you who use a feed reader to read RSS feeds.  For more information, just click on the link and you will be taken to a site that will help you subscribe.  The email option allows you to submit your email address and then receive our posts via a daily email (as long as there is at least one post for that day).  After entering your email address and clicking the subscribe button, you will be taken to a page that verifies your subscription.  Just follow the simple instructions!

Some other new things on the site I’d like to point out are the icons at the end of each post.  I decided to go with these instead of words as they take up less screen real estate and are easier on the eyes.  Here are the descriptions of what each of them mean:

Permalink (A link to the individual post)
  Comments on the post
  Email the post to someone
  Add the post to del.icio.us
  Track the post with co.mments

We’ve also moved the search box further up the sidebar for you as well now that we have so many posts out here (would you believe this one is post #339?).  This is a Google search box so hopefully you will find what you’re looking for on our site pretty easily.

I think that’s about it for the changes that affect site functionality.  I try not to affect things too terribly much as I noodle.  Luckily, most of the changes are strictly aesthetic and I’m probably the only one who notices them.  I am very proud of my little dateboxes though…

The dateboxes were a great aesthetic improvement. Definitely noticed. I dont know how you keep such frequent improvements happening.

As a happy citizen of this fair town and a lover of useless and useful information about Raleigh and North Carolina, I was excited to find this website on a search for info on the new 1/64 pedestrian bridge. I can’t wait to explore a little more after work today. Also, I have to say I really like the clean blog design and the fun logo shirts. I might have to end up ordering one or a few.
