Speaking of the Hillsborough/Boylan area, Jack Hagel did some fine homework and wrote some interesting tidbits in the N&O a couple of weeks ago about the changes occuring in that area.
- On the SE corner of Hargett and Boylan, the former decorating store will become Sidetrack Brewpub. This is a key location as it is only 1 block up the hill from the proposed TTA intermodal station.
- The Bloomsbury Estates condo project will be across Boylan Ave. from the brewpub.
- A mixed use project is proposed by the Boulevard Company for the former Tao Auto and the American Cancer Society site.
- "Cowell Properties of Raleigh" has purchased the 15,000ft, two story office building at 615 Hillsborough, just east of the Tao Auto site.
All of these changes are a sign that growth is moving from the Glenwood South area toward the proposed TTA site. Perhaps the next step is to rejuvenate the retail area between Second Empire and the railroad bridge, making Hillsborough Street the next hot investment in downtown.
