Blue Ridge Road/Lead Mine Road – map it
This is part 7 of a 10-part series in which we examine Raleigh’s most
embarrassing shortcoming to visitors: the abundance of dysfunctional street names. A city should try to be
easily understood instead remaining a labyrinth only understood by the
long-time natives.
Blue Ridge Road turns off of Blue Ridge Road (where it becomes Duraleigh) and extends to Glenwood Ave adjacent to Crabtree Valley Mall. The road becomes Lead Mine and extends as a minor artery northward to Strickland Road.
Problem – Drivers may not recognize this minor artery in different sections of town. A driver in N. Raleigh should recognize a simple way to get to the Rex Hospital area.
Solution – Rename Lead Mine to Blue Ridge Road.
